Drive Chip Putt Championship 2018

Junior Golf Tournament Inspires a Generation

We are delighted to report that nearly 30 local youngsters took part in the 3rd Annual Scottish Junior Drive Chip Putt Championship at Dunes Golf Centre on Sunday 27th May 2018.

The weather was not as fine as it had been over the previous few days but the clouds did nothing to lessen the spirit shown by the competitors on the day

The event saw the children, aged between 4 and 15 years old, play three Drives, three Chips and three Putts with points awarded for their performance in each skill.

The idea of the event is to inspire the youngsters to play golf and enjoy the thrill of playing competitively.

For many of the children it was their first taste of competitive golf and from their reactions it looks like they are hooked!

At Dunes Golf Centre we are committed to growing the game of golf and we have already established a thriving junior academy that is setting up the future of golf in the North East of Scotland.

In the 10 to 15 year old event Aaron Hastie finished in 3rd place with 60 points, In second place was Matthew Cardno on 73 and the champion, with winning for the third year in a row with 101 points was Billy Myers.

In the 8 to 9 age group Finlay Anderson was second with 31 points and our winner was Arran Simpson with a very impressive 77 points.

We also had a prize for the leading girl and this went to Kaelyn Simpson with a score of 41 points

In the 4 to 7 year old group Riley Whyte finished in third spot with 48 points, Scott Fowlie took second on 60 points, thanks in part to being the only player to hole the putt from 30ft for 25 points! However, Kameron Brown become a two-time winner as he successfully defended the title he won last year with a score of 64 points to take the top spot.

A huge thank you to everyone who took part and to all of the Parents, Grandparents, Aunties and Uncles who came along to support on the day.

Finally, a big thanks to our sponsors, photogifts.co.uk who’s support meant entry to the event was free of charge.
