Inspiring the next generation

What is Drive, Chip, Putt? Inspiring the next generation

This event is designed to provide youngsters with the thrill and excitement of playing in a golf competition. We hope to inspire youngsters to start playing golf and to play more through becoming engaged by wanting to beat their own personal best scores.

The driving event gives the youngsters the opportunity to use the amazing Golf Studio at Dunes as it measures exactly how far they hit each shot. Points are awarded for the distance achieved for each of their shots but they have to be on the fairway to score so some accuracy is required!

The chipping event takes place on our short game zone, as does the putting, with points awarded for proximity to the hole after each shot.

All entrants will receive a free basket of balls to get ready for the competition. It is estimated that the event will take approximately 1 hour to complete.

Clubs can be provided free of charge if needed.

It is a hugely successful event in America with many thousands of youngsters taking part right across the country. The grand final coincides with the US Masters with the qualifiers competing at Augusta the weekend before the golf season opener. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to send the winners of our event to Augusta but we do hope it builds in to a very special annual event in Scotland.

Competition Rules and Scoring

  • Each participant will compete in all three skills (Drive, Chip & Putt).
  • Participants will accumulate points in each skill. The participant with the highest number of accumulated points will be declared the Overall Champion of his or her age category.
  • In the case of tie in the overall score, the putting rank will serve as the tie breaker (followed by 1) chipping and 2) driving if necessary).
  • Use of a putter is not allowed for competition in the Chip Skill. Competitors may only use a lofted iron or wood club for this skill. A “chipper” club is considered an approved club for the Chip skill.
  • All championship scoring will be based on a 25-point-per-shot basis, with each participant taking three shots per skill. Each participant will accumulate points per shot in all three skills (maximum of 75 points per skill = 25 points per shot x 3). The overall champion in each age category will be determined by the participant with the most points accumulated between all three skills (maximum of 225 points = 75 points per skill x 3).
